Many years after Aman redefined the idea of spaces associated with weddings in the city, it was felt that high mast lighting did not cater to the needs of the venue in an efficient manner. Similar in its intent to Aman - the aesthetics of this space are fairly abstract.
The walkway leading up to the main garden area is edged by a wall that functions as a waterfall.
The other side of the wall is lined by 9 Tibetan wheels. Inscribed on these wheels are the various emotions associated with the idea of a wedding.
The garden itself is a rectangular form. The planting has been undertaken either against the peripheral wall of the plot, contained in mirrored boxes, or on top of the wall.
Since the scale of Aakash is larger than Aman, trusses were built over the garden; the size of a football field.
The scale of the space made the challenges associated with lighting it singular. Lights were customized in the shape of the moon; made from metal, with the possibility of accurate adjustment and dispersal of light, depending on the need of the event.
After many years, this lighting was replaced with clouds and star formations.
3000 lights resembling stars and 35 clouds were manufactured, each with the ability to change hue and colour, making the ambience of the space, a ‘starry night’; almost surreal.
The furniture that has been placed in the lounge is almost reminiscent of a large bridal party travelling from one place to another for the occasion, or the bride starting a new life, with a new family.
The architecture finds in itself the various representations of the Indian bindi; creating a sense of a watchful eye. The space finds various ways to symbolize the traditions and ideas of celebration associated with the Indian wedding.
