In Daman, the studio was commissioned with the refurbishment of an abandoned factory, and the landscape design of the spaces around the factory. A mango orchard, and the countryside surrounded the space. The landscape design allowed for the preservation of a mango orchard that surrounded the site.
The Landscape datum is continously modified - rising and connecting with the ground, depending on the purpose that it hopes to serve. It raises to capture the view of the borrowed landscape, and then descends again.
The space begins with a water sculpture, with water falling into containers out of two glass spouts. The water in one is still; bubbly in the other. This is a tribute to the function of the space - a brewery.
Similar artistic interventions have been used to aid the narrative of the space. A massive steel drum edges one side of a large lawn. The entrance driveway is edged by four enlarged versions of cast-iron spigots.
The landscape is more land art; it tells the many stories of nature. In doing so, it has challenged the perceptions that are associated with nature of industrial landscapes.
Many years later, when an expansion of the initial space was envisioned, it was decided that the expansion should not disturb or compromise the existing landscape.
The studio, hence, envisioned the expansion such that it filled the gaps between the existing architecture. The patron also bought land to allow for further expansion.
