A house; a home. Two words; different connotations. A home allows for ideas of nostalgia, expression, privacy and refuge; it is about the people.
Rather than having a sense of fluidity or continuity, this home is composed of fractals, and divergent realities.
The architecture devises a vocabulary of its own. The material used for the architecture includes Indian stone, concrete, steel, and lime plaster.
Each space in the house expresses itself uniquely, almost catering to a multitude of personalities.
This idea reflects itself not only in the difference in spaces but also, in some cases, just the accessibility that is afforded to the space.
The architecture is a result of the understanding that there is always room to redefine a typology, and equally examine the many meanings of human occupation.
The landscape provides a sense of duality, a reflection of the myriad of experiences that one goes through. Upright mist fountains mirror vertical water systems in Indian villages.
The topography of the site changes continuously. A series of horizontal lines, and water channels were designed to collect rain water. They are a nod to the fields near which the site is located.
Keeping in mind the extreme conditions of the Indian climate, the plant material that was chosen is robust and native - elephant grass, and gajraj grass, for example. It comprises material that gardens typically seem to dismiss.
