Conceptualized in November 2016, Abhivyakti – City Arts Project is the result of conversations on the significance of art in the urban fabric, the idea of patronage, and the relationship that the audiences and artists of the city share. It brings together Theatre, Dance, Music, and Visual Arts. As an initiative, Abhivyakti is unique in a number of ways–
• It is process driven, and the content that is showcased as a part of the initiative is as a result of its own merit.
• The initiative has been designed to allow for cross-disciplinary dialogue, and constant dialogue between emerging and experienced artists.
•In an effort to remain accessible to all sections of the society, entry is completely free.
•From one year to the next, the team of Abhivyakti is constantly aiming to increase the avenues of accessibility, and facilitate the dialogue on art.
Supported by U.N Mehta Foundation, the first edition of Abhivyakti (2017 – 2018) became Ahmedabad’s longest running art initiative, with 30 artists being showcased over a span of 30 days. The second edition showcased content by 26 artists, over a span of 16 days
Abhivyakti is a young initiative, and remains true to the idea of curation. For two editions, it has brought to the city of Ahmedabad original, specifically designed content.
In its third year now, LEAF conceptualized this initiative, and continues to guide its process.
