Evolved ideas of patronage allowed the client to graciously guide the outcome of that which they were supporting. This building redefines the idea of patronage; it is the result of the patron allowing design and art to flourish, relinquishing control, and demonstrating faith.
Ark is an office space in Baroda. In its spirit, it is a testament to the proprietor’s love for art. It is the result of a collaborative effort where singular voices are allowed to be heard and yet accommodate a collective’s ability to claim the space. This is exemplified not just in the conceptualization of the building, but also in the execution.
Much like Jazz, where different instruments offer unique accents to the same tune, various artists have represented similar thought processes in the media of their choosing.
With the various spaces at its disposal - an art gallery, an atrium that doubles as an amphi-theatre, a parking basement that doubles as an exhibition space - the building has taken on the responsibility of bringing a sense of identity to the community. It has hosted various performances and exhibitions that promote artists at all levels.
It has become a tool against the backdrop of which conversations on art, patronage, and collaboration have become possible.
